The Pagerie Pet is not only your son or daughter, but closest confidant. Introducing Wo(man)’s Best Friend, a series that reveals our favourite Pagerie companions and the personality traits that make them one of a kind.

Marta Pozzan is a true multi-hyphenate. The LA-based actress is also a content creator, director, writer, and mental health advocate. And she’s not slowing down. Marta is shooting a psychological thriller in France in November and recently made a short documentary on why people decide to become parents, which she is hoping to make into a feature film. “I interviewed people about why they did or did not want to become parents,” she said. “It’s been very interesting to learn from people’s stories. Everyone that I interviewed had the most complex, beautiful answers.”

And Marta, too, is a parent of sorts, the mum to rescue pups Dickie and Rue, who she loves deeply. “I don’t even know how to describe my love for them,” she said. “They can do no wrong. I mean, Rue gets into a lot of trouble. So sometimes I yell at her, but I look at them and feel peace. I’ve been really anxious lately, not because anything’s wrong, just working anxiety. And they make me feel a little bit better.”

“I don’t even know how to describe my love for them, they can do no wrong."

Her first dog, Rue, was a tiny puppy when Marta first met him. “My best friend’s roommate works at a nonprofit called Hit Living Foundation in Malibu,” Marta explained. “They go to Mexico and come back with dogs that had been living on the streets. Her roommate kept them for a couple of nights until they found them foster parents.” Marta’s friend told her you have to come over immediately. I’m holding one of the dogs and I see you. And she was right. “I had to fight for her for a month because she had distemper, which is a lethal disease. She tested positive for months, but had no symptoms and finally started testing negative.”

Recently, Marta decided to get a second dog, a playmate for Rue. “I was just going to foster Dickie at that time,” she added. “But the day they sent a photographer to my house to take photos for his adoption page, I said hell no.” The rest is history.

Dickie was 2.5 years old when I adopted him, So Rue was the same age at that time, so they're going to be three in a few months.

Marta is a proponent of adopting, which comes from always wanting to help those who have less than her. “I want to share my love and happiness at any given time,” she said. “I also truly can’t look at dogs and not want to save them all."

Breed: Rue is a German shepherd pitbull mix. And Dickie, I'm not sure, but I think he's a shepherd mix. I think there's some Doberman in his face.

Cutest quirk: Dickie has the biggest tail and when Rue moves behind him, his tail will slap around his face. It's really funny. Rue stands like a regal dog. She stands so tall, like a model, making him look longer. She does it unconsciously, which is very funny, too.

Best trick: Dickie doesn't have tricks, but Rue will give you his paw and then switch to the other.

Go-to cuddle spot: My bed. They won't leave my bed and it's become an issue because there's hair everywhere. So I'm trying to retrain them to sleep in their beds, but they like to be in my bed more and sit on my clothes. I guess it's my smell.

Pagerie must-have: The Dórro. I love the attention to detail, the materials, and the fact that the colors match Rue and Dickie’s fur so perfectly.

Favourite human food: They love carrots.

Daily uniform: Dickie will put on anything, but I can't find anything for his size. If you put something on Rue, she won't move. She hates it.

Go-to outdoor activity: Rue loves to go to the park. Her favorite thing is going to Laurel Canyon Park. And Dickie likes to go on long walks because he gets very anxious with other dogs that he doesn't know. He likes to go to the beach too.

Preferred luxury item: Rue completely destroyed my Louis Vuitton blanket. She undid all the lining and everything. So it's not a blanket anymore. And Dickie is so humble. He doesn't care for luxury things.
